Topic: Original CuteNews Translation Project

Hello,
If you are a registered member and logged-in on this forum you will notice that at the top (on the forum index) there is announcement
about the CuteNews Translation Project
I have introduced this form in order to collect all of the users who are willing to participate and make a translation of CuteNews in their language.
If you are unable to help or you are not interested, simply click on the 'hide this message' button.

Everyone who registers for a certain language will then be formed inside the group who will be responsible for the selected language.

As the next version of CuteNews will have very efficient and easy to translate helper functions it will be easy to maintain a multy-lingual releases of CuteNews.

Thanks to everyone who participates !

Re: Original CuteNews Translation Project

will this cause problems for the existing hacks?
Like wouldn't it be to much of a change to the cutenews code so that we still can find the pieces of code that would need to be replaced.

Also can you give details about how the translation would go about.
Understand that i'm not intrested in like translating every single cutenews file.

Re: Original CuteNews Translation Project

The code that I have used is very easy to understand and translate.
basically every string of text that is used in CuteNews now like:

"Good Morning"

in the new version is being wrapped inside a function and looks like that:

_("Good Morning")

note the translation function is function _($text){ ... }

so as you can see it is very intuitive, how it works is that each time when CuteNews is about to display a certain text it will first check if a different language file is loaded and replace the "Good Morning" with the alternative in the selected language.

All of the actual translated text is located inside one single language file making translation really easy.

Re: Original CuteNews Translation Project

Great! That was exactly my idea! Using an external language database will help a lot translating and also keeping the translations for future versions!
I'm in! http://cutephp.com/forum/style_emoticons/default/smile.gif

Any idea on when new version will be out? Should we stop editing v1.4.5 and wait for new version?
