Topic: upgrade from 1.4.6 (or 7) to latest. help

I had 1.4.x

I backed up.

I installed new version into same folder 'php'

I ran migrate. Can't work out old path as I'm running on a remote webserver. I really don't know the file system path. Tried a few things . None worked.

So, I moved the stuff by hand (as described on cutenews pages). I moved data files into cdata and upimages into uploads.

Results:

a. images all broken until I move them back to upimages.

b. errors:

Warning:  include() [function.include]: Failed opening '/var/www/vhosts/amateur.org.uk/httpdocs/php/inc/functions.inc.php' for inclusion (include_path='.:/usr/share/pear:/local/PEAR/: /usr/share/pear') in /var/www/vhosts/amateur.org.uk/httpdocs/blegblog.php on line 23

Notice:  Undefined variable: show_cat in /var/www/vhosts/amateur.org.uk/httpdocs/blegblog.php on line 25

See : http://www.amateur.org.uk/blegblog.php

Please advise. Thanks for you patience.

Re: upgrade from 1.4.6 (or 7) to latest. help

I downloaded the templates, news.txt and file with the categories. Then I threw 1.5.3 and swapped files.

/CuteNews/cdata/Default.tpl
/CuteNews/cdata/category.db.php
/CuteNews/cdata/news.txt
/CuteNews/cdata/comments.txt

Of course it all depends on whether you have a few templates, etc.
Overall, I changed all the files where I changed something.
It's just my way. I advise you to make a backup CuteNews 1.4.6.

Re: upgrade from 1.4.6 (or 7) to latest. help

1. Check your route to cutenews in Settings > Options. It should be http://www.amateur.org.uk/php. Second, do not delete images from the folder upimages. In uploads new images will appear.
2. The errors appear because include for the old version 1.4.x should be deleted from blegblog.php, line 23.

Best regards,

Thank-you for the response. I have checked/done number 1 and 2.

I still remained with an error on line 25 which is undefined variable $show_cat. I set $show_cat=""; and that seems to fix it.

All works!

Re: upgrade from 1.4.6 (or 7) to latest. help

Sorry about my English, but I'll try... https://cutephp.com/forum/style_emoticons/default/smile.gif
I would like to have old news, old cathegories, old users, old comments in new CN 2.0.2

-I've backed up old CN version 1.4.6 (even though I leaved it active and untouched on server untill the new version work out, is that OK?)
-I've unpacked new CN 2.0.2 on my computer and transfered via Total Comander all content of
new  CN into server, into new folder (named cutenewsx), not in the same where the old one is (named cutenewsn), so the both CNs are now side by side on the same location but in different folders
-I was on ...index.php in my new CN and registred me as administrator, I made some changes and templates, wrote and included a few news into a testpage on my website to see how it works and how I can use new futures and so on...All was Ok, I like it.
After that...
-I've copied all files from data directory of old CN into cdata directory of new CN
-I've copied also all files from upimages of old CN into upload directory of new CN (so I have all images on two places in new CN, unnecessary, wright?)

And now all old images are there in new CN but not any of old news, cathegories, users...
I guess, it has something to do with codes utf -8 and so on...Can I do anything now to solve problems or I have to do everything from beginning?

What is confusing for me in CN instructions?
From CN webpage :

To install a new version of CuteNews you are recommended to back up old codes and after it delete the following data:
the server folders: core, inc, migrate, skins
    also the files from the root folder: register.php, update_cutenews.php, router.php, migrate_to_latest.php, example1.php, example2.php, cn_friendly_url.php (if it exists)

Most of this files and folders are not present in my old CN folder, is that OK? Should I delete only a few files of them I have?

...
If the old version refers to 1.4.x, you can find an ID in the file ./data/news.txt, in the beginnings of the lines.

I was in this document via Notepad and I can't find any ID there.

Grateful for any help...

SOLVED! I've done it all again.

Here https://cutephp.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=43843 is the explanation "How to find ID code" (any of them) https://cutephp.com/forum/style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif , make a test
and much more and  here https://cutephp.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=43637 "How to set wright path" in Maintance...
