"I would like to see a direct news url after adding the news"
to do that we would need to know exactly where the news is being included,
to link to news we would need to know where the news is, and since this is a different on almost every site, it's not going to be easy...
but an advanced preview news page may be nice https://cutephp.com/forum/style_emoticons/default/smile.gif ... *ponders

I understand...I use CuteNews as a content management system, but it is dificlut to add a simple link to a button like my preview. I like all of CuteNews, but it is dificlut to implement it as a CMS. However, your unregistered version adds the text "Content Management powered........" but it is only a newsreader https://cutephp.com/forum/style_emoticons/default/wink.gif

Another suggest to the new version, exclude catagories from being viewed by some users... https://cutephp.com/forum/style_emoticons/default/wink.gif

Re: Wishes for future versions of CuteNews

I just wanted to repeat what others have said about needed CuteNews features. There are a few areas that could use some tweaking, but I think a big one is spam control.

I think that there should be a number of spam control options included by default in CuteNews. The hacks are good, but it's really something that should be in from step one.

1. Captcha, or some other method of human verification should be available. Captcha's pretty good, though, it seems like.

2. Banned words and domains, preferably with regular-expression matching.

3. Spam control via time-per-post.

We have 3 now, but it's really only a damage-control feature. It won't stop spam from happening, just slow it down a little. It's good to have, but only to augment other spam-control features.

I know there's a captcha hack, and number two might be out there somewhere, also. Perhaps some sort of plug-in system would useful (although I expect that making a usable plug-in system might be harder than all three above). Editing the files by hand can be a pain. I think a lot of users probably can't be bothered with it, or try it but fail.

The possibility to change publish date of a news when it is already published.

Re: Wishes for future versions of CuteNews

An avatar url field for each member so you dont have to enter it manually each time in the add news

Nvm, I was mistaken.

But how about an ability to lock posts so other writers cannot modify your news post if you dont want them to or lock their post after you edit it so that they dont edit it back

change the datestamp in news.txt

Re: Wishes for future versions of CuteNews

change the datestamp in news.txt

yes, but with a GUI!
I would use this when I make some updates, I want the news to come up to first position.

Re: Wishes for future versions of CuteNews

Just installed 1.4.1 on a site I'm building for some folks who don't know a lick of HTML but still want to be able to manage all of their content. CuteNews looks to fit the bill perfectly. I'm really impressed with this tool!

I've seen some of the date hacks in this forum but what would be cool is a quick bump feature. In the "edit news" tab you can select news items and then chose an action (Delete, Send to Archive, Change Category). I'd like to see an option for "Bump" that would simply update the news item to the current time.

Re: Wishes for future versions of CuteNews

There is one thing I would like to see in CuteNews, and that is option to print out full story witht comments in admin panel.

Could be options in it in two or three steps.

1: Print full story with comments, (name and comments)
2. Print full story with all fields, (include fields you make), (name, e-mail, smiles and comments)
3. Prtint full story only, (skip commetns)
4. Print comments only, (only comments and name)

Just my idea.

Re: Wishes for future versions of CuteNews

I love cutenews being flat file. fits great on my jump drive, is easy to upload, download whatever it's quick simple and the including of news throughout your site is an incredibly simple way of doing things. really really love it.. in fact if you started implementing mysql i'd stop using it. it's the reason i love it. i've ran it on so many sites and never had a problem and if i did i've found a hack for just about everything. it is more flexible than i ever realzed. i've turned cutenews into a forum, contact form, newsletter, blog, store, search engine.. you name it.. i can make it do anything just about. i dont see any need for anything else EXCEPT a beautiful integrated rating system and WHERE'D PREVIEW GO!? I really liked that especially for my newbie posters and the ability to preview would be great again now that you have postpone articles feature which i must add is the best thing i've ever seen. i can add content to all my popular sites for the whole month and not eve look.

So.. of the hacks, hacks I've done and things I haven't seen tried at all... I'm real interested in these things being installed standard or invented for cutenews:

Hacks from the Forum I'd like to see Integrated: Random News Hack (or random headlines, whichever), Views Hack, Captcha Hack, Newsletter Hack, Latest Comments Hack, (possibly) a PHPBB hack to integrate users so they sign up for forum and cutenews journalist at the same time (yeah i added that last one out of the blue off the top of my head)

New Things for Future Versions: Rating Script.. cutenews would be #1 with a rating script. (this would be sooooooooo great with the random script, and would really beef up the latest comments as well. it would just make the site so so shiny)

Other than that, you nailed this script on the head. I make web pages almost daily using cutenews... just so you know.

oh and is there a way to make the search simpler? i find it unecessary to search all broken like that. i'd just like one search and it would search title, short-story, and full-story all at once.. maybe even comments.. and instead of showing just the title as the search results.. what about showing title and short-story? you could make it show up a lot like google or yahoo with a search engine look to it. think bout it.. might go play with your code and see if i can hack that one myself

Re: Wishes for future versions of CuteNews

https://cutephp.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=5137

But than inside the system as well? For example with a template. To make an agenda? or an event calendar.

$date = "true";

If you want to descend or ascend. Would be nice.

And an update for the search function. It isn't working at all my cutenews systems. Even the original ones. I dont get it. Maybe Flexer could include the easy image hack? You know? To make an easy clickable popup etc.

Thanks https://cutephp.com/forum/style_emoticons/default/smile.gif

Re: Wishes for future versions of CuteNews

I'd like to see the File upload hack added as standard, so that you can upload pdf's or doc's for people to download, long with images.

The system is great though, and very flexible.

Have integrated it into just about every site that I have done in the last few months!

Thanks

Re: Wishes for future versions of CuteNews

I'd like an auto-acronym manager, so you type in lots of acronyms and what they stand for, and then when you use the acronyms in your new they automatically becomes <acronym< with the title you've typed in.
Hm hope this gives any meaning to you, my english isn't very good..

edit: ooo found a nice little function on the top left of this page, "called search".. never mind this..

Re: Wishes for future versions of CuteNews

what ya think about a new and better WYSIWYG-editor like the one here
wysigwyg
i doesn't work in IE, but it has an undo/redo option, and image insert optiion included.

Re: Wishes for future versions of CuteNews

I want native support (with hotswapping) for languages like markdown and textile, somewhat like AJ Fork (which from what I can read in the developers blog obviously just stopped being developed sometime without letting the many users know). There are several people asking for help on how to add this to cutenews, but neither of the threads I found here can explain how to. If I knew more about php I'd start dissecting AJ, but since I'm blank I'd rather not.

To me this is the most important extension, together with perhaps friendly filenames and the extended date/time-addon, all of which I think should be vanilla from CuteNews.

Re: Wishes for future versions of CuteNews

I wish the url's will be search engine friendly by default... could this happen??

Re: Wishes for future versions of CuteNews

I would like to see as a weblogger that all the categories or posted were I want them to be posted. That would help me much https://cutephp.com/forum/style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif

Edit: Nvm just needed to edit a little thing https://cutephp.com/forum/style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif

Edit2: Mm that file on the site doesn't work smoothly so maybe it is something to consider about https://cutephp.com/forum/style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif.

Edit3: Also the user listing isn't working good maybe something to make that to https://cutephp.com/forum/style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif

Re: Wishes for future versions of CuteNews

I've been searching the forum for quite a while and did not found a suggestion like this:

would be nice to have an Export user list in the admin area... a system, which would export all users in a .XLS or .CSV file
I know, this is possible within the MySQL admin on my server, but apart of that, having just a signle "Export users" button in the Admin area would be great...

Re: Wishes for future versions of CuteNews

- Nice plugin system to include hacks that don't blow away when new CuteNews version is installed.

- And... I would really love the possibility to link from the news editor a file on the server... yes yes!

- Include images in posts without inserting HTML code.

- Add counters for visited news.
