There is already a solution at least for getting rid of the new lines that are created. Unfortunately, I am having trouble with getting it work. See new line post
I am aware of the plugin but I want to get familiar with the new version of Cutenews before I look at plugins.
I have found that under System Configurations there is a tab for CKeditor. The possible settings can be reviewed here CKeditor 3.x/Developers
I have added the additional option to the CKeditor: PasteFromWord but it doesn't make any difference to what would have been achieved by using Control +V. I think that the addon must be installed all the button does is provide the option to use the features available in the addon.
I'll try the plugin/addon referred to by Perry after I have completed my current website.

Try switching on php error reporting to see if an error has occurred.

Thanks Damoor. I have tried that and can report there are no errors reported. The alteration of the CKEditor should be fine, subject to typos. I am wondering whether the problem lies with the Cutenews System Configurations.
What I have found is a published news article that I couldn't remove. I eventually did remove it by posting it to a different category. And I think restarting my PC.
This information may be irrelevant: I am using Expression Web 2. Encoding set to ISO-8859-1.

I have just tested it again and it works without problems on three different cutenews installations and three different servers.

Thanks Damoor. To recheck what I have done and I experience. I have copied your code exactly. Its in the correct location. It doesn't work for me. The CKEDitor works if the line is removed.
What I have noticed is that in the Article Options the Use HTML in this article is checked and is also greyed out. I can't uncheck it. This state applies only when the CKEDitor is checked under System Configurations for adding news. If I deselect it the Article Options check box for Use HTML is unchecked and not greyed out.
My website is on a Unix server. I don't know where to look for the CKEditor version. How do I check for an upgrade? Thanks

Thanks Damoor, I have tried that and find that adding the line disables the CKEditor in the window. CKEditor works if I disable the new line.

There's an error in Clone Template, which will be fixed soon. After that you will be able to edit templates by cloning and removing the old versions.

You want only copy the text from Word?

Click on the 'source' button and copy the text inside but you lost all the text stylings.

I think you have misunderstood me. I want to copy only the text (including tables) from a Word document. I am finding that Copy and Paste into CKEditor creates a lot of new lines.
And the table grid lines are missing.

I have just started using CuteNews 2.0.2 and as usual (I have 1.4.6 installed on my other sites) I copied and pasted a Microsoft Word document which contains tables. All formatting of the tables have been removed. Surely this is possible. 
I can't even find View Source. Correction it appears I need to enter Configuration and activate CK Editor. So far so good. Next problem the CK Editor is adding more blank lines.
There is a problem as the first attempt of adding news was before I activated CKEditor. The first news article cannot be deleted now.

I have a new installation of cutnews and want to create new templates. I can't find out how to do this. there is just the option to alter the Default template and save it! but not to rename it. the help buttons dont work and the internal documentation appears to be no different to version 1.4.6.
It appears that the user has to select Clone Template and name the file that he has created by altering the default file.

I have 1.4.6 and no archiving and only 350 articles and an out of memory problem. I have been advised to upgrade to 2.0.2 but have not managed to do this yet.

Just checking as there is no documentation on this. Well there is but no mention of Parent.
If I want to group several categories under a parent do I create a new category to be used as the parent category. Next I create the categories to be placed in the parent category by selecting the parent category. Trying this I see the parent category listed and the two categories placed underneath with prefixed with a hyphen. Is that correct?
At present I have not added the website files as they are still being modified. I have used Add News though to to see what the new arrangement for categories looks like. Seems like a useful addition. My o0ther CuteNews websites have up to 70 categories so it will be easier to find a category.
If I add a news item to the parent category does it mean that it will be added to all the child categories?

If your .bak files start to appear, it means that writing to the users.txt files is unavailable and the user cannot be created correctly. You need to check write permissions in the cdata folder and particularly in the users.txt file for the username that runs your website.
This is the link to the current installation instructions Cutenews installation either this is correct or it is not. Please confirm. Unfortunately, I do not understand it. What I have done is managed to run the install Cutenews. Permission Check (check writeable dirs) displays 7 directories as being OK. The list is:<ol type='1'> * cdata
* uploads
* cdata/news
* cdata/plugins
* cdata/btree
* cdata/backup
* cdata/log
</ol>
I have rwx for me as owner for all files. I am still getting Invalid User or wrong password. Do I need to be logged in to the website on the server while I access the install module using my browser?

I really need to be able to get my website up and running on the new version of Cutenews. The current version is running under php 5.2.6 should this be updated? Also should I move the website to a Linux server?

You need to delete the users.txt file in the cdata folder and all files in the users folder. Then you need to perform reinstall and enter your login and password correctly, in Latin letters.

I have created a new folder for cutenews. I named it cutenews202. I have uploaded 2.0.2 to the new folder. (Step one has been completed) I then created an admin account successfully. I then selected Start using cutenews. I was then presented with another login window but was unable to login receiving an error message: invalid password or user name.
I have used the same admin user name and password as I used for 1.4.6 but this should not make any difference. I have tried the lost password option but the result is a message: user does not exist!
Can anyone help me with this issue. The website is hosted on a Windows server, if that makes any difference.

1. To migrate correctly from 1.4.6 to 2.0.2 you need to install version 2.0.2 alongside (!) version 1.4.6 without changing anything.
2. Create new admin account in version 2.0.2.
3. Go to Dashboard > Maintenance > Migration.
4. Choose Migrate from 1.4.Ñ…, indicate the path to the catalog where version 1.4.6 is installed, indicate the code where the news of version 1.4.6 are stored, indicate the files you want to transfer to the new version.
5. Click Do convert.
Check the results of the migration. If you have any problems with pagination, run the script migration_update_indexes.php from the core folder in version 2.0.2.

I need to upgrade from 1.4.6 to 2.0.2 as my website is too large and the Search function is crashing. I would also like to take advantage of the additional features that CuteNews offers. The problem is that the documentation is difficult to understand. I have found "How to install or upgrade from 1.4x or 1.5x to v2.0" It is better than another document that I found that was almost unreadable.
I downloaded and unzipped 2.0.2 to a new folder on my own computer: Cutenews 2.0.2. I then deleted as advised, from my installed Cutenews on the host computer: the Inc and Skins folders and also from the root folder Example 1.php and Example 2 .php. I didn't change the cdata folder (it doesn't exist on 1.4.6) or Uploads.
Next the advice paragraph 2 is as quoted: "then unpack the files stored in the zip to the place where the previous version of Cutenews was and update the administraor page. It's recommended to make Logout before updating Cutenews."
I copied all the files from my Cutenews 2.0.2 folder to the server's cutenews folder overwriting any folders that pre-existed. I was then able to create a new Administrator account and received a congratulations message. I had been logged out, or not even logged in! so the advice to Logout is wrong. I tried to login in order to logout and my new password was rejected. That was the end of the upgrade for me.
Result, I am stuck, except I wiped cutenews 2.0.2 and reinstalled 1.4.6 from my home computer backup. So my website still works but I am unable to upgrade to 2.0.2. without some expert advice.
Can anyone explain what I did wrong. My websites are hosted on a Windows server. I would just like to add that I have used 1.4.6 for over 6 years and have had only a few problems that are probaly not due to Cutenews anway Visit My Website

For CuteNews 1.4.6, this issue cannot be fixed. You can increase the memory for PHP on the host, but it will be a temporary measure. We recommend you upgrade to 2.0.2, and the migration of news should be performed on the localhost, where there will be enough memory for PHP to upload a file of 24MB to the process memory.
After the migration on the localhost, you need to transfer the installed 2.0.2 version to the working service, configure the system settings and the problem with memory shall not disturb you again.

What is the size of your news.txt file? It seems too big to be uploaded onto the server. Try making it smaller by deleting old news.
Hi Yes, the problem site has a size of 24,345,828. The site is a parish council website and I would like to keep most of the posts for historical reasons. I have not archived the news, would that make a difference?

I have another website that is larger but doesn't have any issues. Both use CuteNews 1.4.6
The error doesn't seem to be associated with the number of results found as even 18 results generates the error. Both sites are hosted by Fashosts.

It appears that only some of the backups were visible in the backup window. the backup did exist but I couldn't see it! Windows XP Pro and IE8.
